Lewis Hamilton continued to set the pace in the final practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday morning, lapping his McLaren in 1m 20.228s. But Felipe Massa maintained Ferrari’s hopes by setting the second fastest time of 1m 20.567s, 0.339s adrift.

Both of them had displaced Timo Glock from the top of the timesheets, after the young German took his Toyota round in 1m 20.623s. In turn that was just ahead of Heikki Kovalainen in the second McLaren on 1m 20.657s. Nelson Piquet kept up Friday’s strong form for Renault with a fifth-fastest 1m 20.917s.

Nick Heidfeld headed the next batch with 1m 21.096s for BMW Sauber, chased by the Toro Rossos of Sebastien Bourdais (1m 21.179s) and Sebastian Vettel (1m 21.184s), the latter relieved to park in the pits at the end of the session rather than having to find his way back from Turn Five where he stopped with hydraulic problems in both sessions on Friday.

Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen was ninth on 1m 21.187s, then came Williams’ Nico Rosberg (1m 21.195s), Renault’s Fernando Alonso (1m 21.228s), Williams’ Kazuki Nakajima (1m 21.357s), Red Bull’s David Coulthard (1m 21.489s), Toyota’s Jarno Trulli (1m 21.601s), Honda’s Rubens Barrichello (1m 21.703s), Red Bull’s Mark Webber (1m 21.752s), Honda’s Jenson Button (1m 21.772s) and a mechanically troubled Robert Kubica (1m 21.975s) in the second BMW Sauber.

At the back, Giancarlo Fisichella edged out Force India partner Adrian Sutil with 1m 22.189s to 1m 22.550s.
